Makari: Hizbullah Refusal to Discuss Arsenal Torpedoes Idea of National Dialogue
Deputy Parliament Speaker Farid Makari on Tuesday said Hizbullah’s continued refusal to discuss the future of its weapons arsenal “torpedoes the whole idea of national dialogue.”
At a press conference, Makari voiced pessimism over Hizbullah’s demands for veto power in the new government and said “this takes us back to point zero.”
He said he hoped the other team “accepts the poll outcome and does not cripple the county and provoke tension once again.”
Makari considered that outcome in Koura reflects “the mood of the Lebanese in general, and Christians in particular. We hope the other side grasps the message behind the result and reconsiders its calculations, policies and choices.”
On parliament presidency, he said that March 14 forces will “deliberate the matter after their meeting. As for the premiership, it is up to the majority to decide and this majority is headed by Sheikh Saad Hariri.”

by ouwtte yre67On the international scene, we all know that Hizballah's policy is all connected to Iran's ambition. If the US make a deal with Iran and the middle east peace process go forward, eventually Iran will pressure Hizballag to give up their weapons since there will no excuse to keep them. As long as the US and Iran are plying back and forth, so will Hizballah will play the same game with the new govermant. Iran want to get the best deal possible and I hope they do, because thwey have to givre their card in Lebanon or plaestine and I pray to god that they give give away HIzbllah rather than Hamas. This is the only way for rigjht now for Hizballah to give up their arrson, or we have to do it by the lebanese army.
Hizbollah will have to readjust
by Gebran Sons for Cedar Revolution IIHizbollah liberated the South in 2000 and deserves our respect for that. Since then it has become a heavy burden on Lebanon and the Shiaa community, isolating and indoctrinating the community, freezing our government institutions, and fighting wars to benefit Iran and Syria while causing the destructions of our villages and the devastation of our economy. On May 7 Hizbollah attacked Beirut and the media and on that day its arms lost all legitimacy. It became just a question of time before Hizbollah is publicly rejected at the poles, and pretty the Shiaa community will reject its course. Brute force, intimidation tactics, and relying on puppets for dirty work as commonly practiced in Syria and Iran do not work in Lebanon as has become clear to Hizbollah. The new government should work quickly to demarcate the borders and return Shebaa farms. At that point Hizbollah should give up its arms and accept the role of being a political party. Only then all Lebanese will embrace Hizbollah brave fighters who defended our land and help them reintegrate into a civil, free and democracy society.
And what then?
